Image Path

The Image Path shows the path to the folder where Artsystems Pro houses images linked to records.

The Image Path will be set upon installation of Artsystems Pro.

IMPORTANT: 

For organizations with multiple databases, when changing databases, the correct Document and Images paths must be set for users to access Documents and Images within the database. This is a one time process. Once you have set the paths, they will automatically update each time you switch between databases. If you have a Server hosting images, please check with your IT personnel for the correct path.

 

For Mac Users:

• The default path for Documents is the MacintoshHD/Users/Shared/Artsystems/Documents folder.
• The default path for Images is the MacintoshHD/Users/Shared/Artsystems/Images folder.

 

For Windows Users:

• The default path for Documents is the C:\ProgramData\Artsystems\Documents folder.
• The default path for Images is the C:\ProgramData\Artsystems\Images folder.

To Set Image Path

1. For Mac users select Artsystems Pro> Preferences from the menu, for Windows users select Edit> Preferences from the menu.
2. Click the Images icon.
3. In the Image Path window click Change.
4. Note the following prompt (answer either Yes or No accordingly):

5. Navigate to change to the desired image path.

6. Click Select Folder to save the Image Path.

IMPORTANT: Artsystems Pro automatically duplicates your original high resolution image .TIF or .JPG, resizes and removes any illegal characters in the filename. This feature allows flexibility in the management of your high-resolution image files outside of Artsystems Pro. Do not place the original image in the Artsystems/Images folder before dragging onto Pro.

Type

Type must be set to JPG

• Select JPG to attach JPG images as well as other image types (TIFF, GIF, PNG, etc). Artsystems Pro converts and resizes to 1 MB (1,024 KB) or less the image file to a JPG when it saves to the Artsystems Pro image folder.

Quality

Set the quality of the image to Maximum, High, or Medium

The Quality settings affects the compression output of the resulting converted file size. See an illustration of how Quality settings affect compression in the charts at the end of this section.

IMPORTANT: For optimum database performance and use with our ProFile application for iPad, use the High and Fit within 2048 x 2048.

File Size

The File Size is the resulting size of the saved image file. The selections available for file size are: Fit within 2048 x 2048, Fit within 1024 x 1024, Fit within 640 x 640, and Custom. For the Custom option users enter a number of pixels to custom 'fit within'. Artsystems Pro will fit within the selected option by sizing the longest side of the image, whether width or height.

IMPORTANT: For optimum database performance, resulting file sizes once attached to Work records should generally not exceed 1 MB (1,024 KB) in file size.

Create Thumbnail Images

The Create Thumbnail Images feature creates a folder named AS_Thumbnails within your main Artsystems Images folder. The feature creates a small thumbnail duplicate image to increase the speed of scrolling in Spreadsheet View.

This only needs to be performed one time to initiate this feature. Afterward each image you drag into Pro will be automatically duplicated and re-sized for the AS_Thumbnails folder. Please allow the feature to process until you receive the message Image Thumbnails created.

Notes About Image Display

When images are attached in Works the user can double-click on the image on the Works Detail Screen to access Image Properties. Click on the Arrow  next to Properties to open the Properties Folder to view: File name, File size, Pixel size, and Resolution.

NOTE: You can view the Primary Image in Spreadsheet View by opening the Image Slider. To add the Primary Image file name as a column in Spreadsheet View, see Basics>Customize Spreadsheet Layouts

The chart below shows examples of 2 Tiff images attached in Artsystems Pro using the different Image Preference settings.

• Source Image A: Longest side is Width
• Source Image B: Longest side is Height

The charts include the resulting Image Type, Pixel Dimensions, Document Size, Resolution and File Size for images in Artsystems Pro when using the different Image Preference settings.

• Pixel Dimensions: The Pixel Dimensions size of image file in pixels width x height
• Document size: The size of the printed image when printed on its own (not within an Artsystems Pro report or document).
• Resolution: Resolution describes the amount of image detail the data holds and is generally described in pixels per inch. Artsystems Pro will keep the original resolution of the source image.
